When all of this started happening, and I found about Stack not making it, I didn’t wanna look at the list of the deceased. I quickly glanced over the list, and I really didn’t examine any of the pictures too well if I didn’t recognize them. I found out that People magazine used my photo of Stack for their photo gallery, so I decided to look at everyone’s photo. Once I saw Julia’s picture, my heart skipped a beat.

I was introduced to Julia by my friend from high school, Amrita, her roommate. I can think back to numerous times when I was a freshman and didn’t have too many close friends at Virginia Tech, and Amrita would invite me over to hang out, Julia was always there. She would always have her hand digging into something environmental, and she had an AMAZING love for life. Julia was connected to the Earth more than any Hokie I have EVER met.

These pictures are from December 4, 2003. I have vivid memories of taking the bus with Dave Lilly trudging through the snow to get to their apartment. Amrita and Michelle invited us over to hang out, and Julia was fixing a necklace. She will be missed dearly, and every time I walk by Carleton Scott Apartments, I will smile because I knew she would want me to.

Juls made me a hemp banner too. Mine says INSPIRATION. That is what she will be for all of us hopefully. Our inspiration to change the world because she can not. Love to all who loved her.
R.I.P. you will be missed!
What a wonderful person she must have been! So sorry for everyone who lost her, may she rest in peace!
Thank you Andrew. This was very kind of you and you know how important being KIND was to Julia. The world lost 32 wonderful people on April 16. It is hard to comprehend. The outpouring of support and prayers from friends and strangers has reminded us that there is still goodness and love in the world.
