In 1997, RocketMail, not to be confused with the delivery of mail by rocket or missile, was a great email service, then Yahoo! snatched it up and killed it.

Well, 11 years later, you can sign up for a @rocketmail.com email address.

They also enabled ymail.com, which sounds like direct competition to Gmail.

I have heard a lot about the inner workings of Mail and Calendar over at Yahoo! They’re really focusing on making it more social. Even though Yahoo! is losing a lot of top-level execs, their audience is still strong. People are always gonna revolve their web experience around Yahoo!
Will you use RocketMail or Ymail?

I’d use yahoo mail, but I also need to use my own domain. Sorta like Google Apps for your domain. It’d be great!
Same here. My main email lives on GAFYD (mail@andrewmager.com).
I actually like Yahoo’s interface better than Gmail, but Google still has the advantage because I can customize.
Also, there’s a little-known company who provides push Google Calendar and Contacts over ActiveSync, and they’ll support Gmail e-mails. It’s called nuevasync.com. I love them, I had provided a lot of feedback for them, and it works great!
im still standing by my hotmail.
says Hotmail it evil! Microsoft. Whoa, I just wrote this comment Plurk-style.
Dude this is nostalgic news. Rocket mail was my first email ever! When it died, I lost access to my 6-digit ICQ number.
Don’t forget your Yahoo! ID is a valid OpenID login. Big props to Yahoo! for that.
I use Hotmail/msn for IM < Yes it’s the biggest in Holland
Gmail: For my E-mail, Awesome spam control
Yahoo: for my flickr
AIM: To chat with my American Friends

I saw that Yahoo was now offering Rocketmail, I was like wait…Rocketmail from the 90’s? I think that was my first email account. I’m just glad they offered Ymail as well…where it can’t compare to Gmail, I can at least have nickstarr@ymail.com instead of nickstarr23423424523453453453454353423@yahoo.com.
