Facebook redesign in beta

I’ve been a Facebook user for four years now, and since 2004, it’s still been the website I check more than anything. The amount of social data on Facebook is ginormous. Today, they soft-launched a sneak peek at their new design. It’s… unfamiliar, really white, and awkwardly-centered, but otherwise awesome.

Facebook 2.0

I think it’s cool that you can post on someone’s wall right away, and it shows up in their mini-feed, or “Feed” as it’s called now. More and more outside sites are becoming available for this feed.

You can tell that Facebook is really centering the experience around the feed.

If you want to read someone else’s wall you have to click the Wall tab. But, you get more than 10 posts now.

Photos are much more accessible now, and “Photos tagged by others” shows up first.

And now they have this generic tab called “Boxes” for all your apps.

Another cool feature is to control how your main feed looks. You can decrease or increase the size of the stories.

Expanded:

So far, I’m impressed. Information is more easily accessible, and site is almost all Ajax. What do you think? As with any huge Facebook change, I bet there will be some fire.

I have one complaint actually. Facebook has one of the best events application and they are under utilizing it. Why isn’t there an events tab?

I like what they’ve done pretty well, makes it easier to find the content you’re looking for, plus what they’ve done to the mini-feed is great. The only thing I’m not so sure about is the “boxes” section. Will people really want to click to somewhere else to see people’s apps they’ve added? To me, apps have just been kind of a bonus thing in people’s profiles. I don’t know if I’d wanna go out of my way to see them.
