Pownce is not Twitter. It’s not even close. I use them for completely different things. Twitter is much simpler. It asks, “What are you doing?”
Leah Culver’s startup takes that to the next level. I believe the main purpose of Pownce is to share media with your friends. You can easily send a link, video, photo, event, or message to a friend easier than you can on Facebook. Here is a screenshot of my profile page:

So Leah organized a launch party at Madrone in NOPA. It was one of the best parties of the year, mainly because of the PBR for $2. Also, a lot of web pioneers showed up. As with every tech guy, I have a crush on Ms. Culver.
I vowed to never put another person in my Pownce profile picture but Leah Culver. Which is surprising if you know my Facebook profile photo scheme.
Digg founder Kevin Rose was pounding award-winning beer with me.
Mahalo Daily’s Veronica Belmont was there too. Us blokes were lucky enough to snap a photo with her.
I snagged a few shots with GeekBrief.TV’s host Cali Lewis.
Digg.com’s excellent designer Daniel Burka was there. I think he also designed most of the themes for Pownce

The only sad news to report from this party is that Terry Chay couldn’t get in. This makes my heart hurt.
I think Pownce will succeed. I find it very useful, and I cannot think of any sites that do the simple task of sharing files with friends as well as they does it. Congrats to the folks at Megatechtronium, keep up the good work.
Pownce officially launches at midnight on Monday night (1/22).
